The Hartsook Chair in Fundraising at Indiana University
Hartsook's first step in growing philanthropy was endowing of the Robert F. Hartsook Chair in Fundraising at Indiana University. The Chair holder, Adrian Sargeant, is one of the world's most respected voices and researchers in the fundraising field. With a PhD in Marketing, Sargeant and his team have been conducting research applying for-profit marketing research to the nonprofit world. Through his 18 books and hundreds of periodicals, he has been building--for the first time in the fundraising profession a body of knowledge. His forthcoming book, Fundraising, Principles and Practices, published by Jossey-Bass, is the first pedagogically-sound text in the fundraising field; it is scheduled for release in March of 2010. Hartsook Institutes faculty Matthew Beem, Karin L. Cox, and Bob Hartsook contributed three chapters to this volume: "High Value Giving," "Planned Giving" and "Fundraising Events."
Sargeant is independently contracted with the Hartsook Institutes as Visiting Professor and member of the Curriculum Committee. Sargeant has been consistently noted as one of the 10 most influential persons in the nonprofit world by the European magazine, Fundraising.

Professor Sargeant joined the public affairs faculty at SPEA IUPUI in the fall of 2006. He is also the Robert F. Hartsook Professor of Fundraising at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. A native of Great Britain, Sargeant is a leading international expert in fundraising research, with expertise in donor loyalty and retention and the application of marketing principles to fundraising.
