The first Growing Philanthropy Day of Service was held January 21, 2010 as a prelude to the National Growing Philanthropy Conference in Kansas City January 22. The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, Hartsook Institutes, and Avila University partnered for the first Day of Service, held at Avila University. Fifteen Hartsook consultants and staff served almost 50 nonprofits from the Kansas City area, and a total of 180 people participated in the first Days of Service. Three additional days were added to meet the overwhelming response.
The following Day of Service clients applied, were accepted, and were or will be served as part of the Growing Philanthropy Day of Service project:
Hartsook Institutes plans to serve over 500 nonprofits with budgets ranging from less than $100,000 to over $2 million. At least 1,000 volunteer leadership and staff, 100 Hartsook Companies and other nonprofit consultants and Hartsook Institutes faculty will contribute to the international effort. The direct impact to increase philanthropy to fulfill the missions of nonprofits will be over $150 million.
Growing Philanthropy Days of Service plans include: Kansas City; Washington, D.C.; Baltimore; Greensboro and Winston-Salem, N.C.; INTERNATIONAL (online); Tulsa; Charlotte; and Los Angeles.
