Who We Are

Hartsook Institutes was created to increase philanthropy through research and knowledge-based fundraising education.

We will all reap the rewards of fundraising professionals who understand the key role they play in advancing philanthropy.

Fundraising Education in the World

Hartsook Institutes is committed to changes in fundraising education because:

• Much of the fundraising education currently available is based on a participation model rather than a competency evaluation

• Research studies consistently emphasize the importance the fundraiser plays in brokering philanthropy

•The sophistication of philanthropists is rapidly outgrowing the fundraising profession, which has historically been based on largely experiential and anecdotal stories rather than research and knowledge based education models.

The Hartsook Institutes for Fundraising was founded in 2009 by Bob Hartsook. It serves as a voice and vehicle for a knowledge and research-based approach to fundraising education. The approach was pioneered by the first Hartsook Chair in Fundraising at Indiana University Adrian Sargeant, and the applications of that and other research in fundraising by Bob Hartsook and Hartsook Companies, Inc.
